Leveling and Targeting
A leveled text system is only the beginning for differentiated,
comprehensive reading instruction. The NLC “targets”
each leveled text by identifying specific decoding skills and comprehension
strategies for instruction within each and every leveled text in
the school’s collection. In addition, each teacher has access
to a central database of these materials and targets so that selecting
a text is based on student instructional level, interest, and needed
